My esteemed former colleague Phil LaRose is now a published author with a mystery, “First Case of Beers,” under his belt.
Mary Ann Grossman, the Pioneer Press book critic, describes Phil and his book as follows:
LaRose, who divides his time between Minnesota and his native Louisiana, has assembled an intriguing cast of characters, including Beer’s assistants Tina and Lena. Tina is a smart, 20-something cosmetician, a “dark-haired cutie” who knows everything that goes on in the store. Lena is a beautiful transplant from New Orleans who uses “yat-isms” when she’s talking privately. (Yat is a dialogue spoken in the Greater New Orleans area.)
“First Case of Beers,” a double-pun title since it’s also the first in a series, may be the least violent mystery published this year. There are no murders, although one customer is hospitalized after eating something suspicious at the store’s candy counter.
More info about the book at the bottom of this post.
Phil was in the newsroom recently to say hi and sell a few copies of his book. Lookin’ good, sir.
