A geek-cool weekend spent at Comic Con

As a guy who grew up on a steady diet of science-fiction novels and superhero comics, I was thrilled to hit Wizard World Comic Con in Minneapolis (twice) over the weekend.

The Minneapolis con, which debuted in 2014, is among a series of Wizard World Comic Con events held around the country. These are similar to (but not affiliated with) bigger and better-known cons like San Diego Comic-Con International.

Such events are traditionally chockablock with nerds dressed like characters from comic books, science fiction, video games and the like … and Minneapolis Comic Con was no exception.

I spent Saturday and Sunday at the con for the Pioneer Press, brandishing a camcorder on a monopod, and getting the cosplayers to give me their best moves and poses.

Each evening, I fired up Final Cut Pro to stitch all the raw footage into a compilation video. This was hours and hours of work … but so much fun.

I think my two videos turned out well:

They’re definitely better than the one I shot last year:

In doing a bit of background research for this year’s video reporting, I stumbled on a Comic Con video that shows yours truly at work last year (scrub to the 1:15 mark):
