Great Scott! Tomorrow is Back to the Future Day.
It is on Oct. 21, 2015, that Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly (and his snoozing girlfriend) are due to arrive from 1985 in the DeLorean sports car that Doc retrofitted to work as a time machine.
I marked the occasion earlier this week in the best possible way: I drove a DeLorean.
My Pioneer Press colleague Paul Haga owns one of these famous (some might say infamous) cars.
Paul and I had been talking for a while about getting me in the driver’s seat. On Monday, it finally happened.
Almost everything about this was amazeballs: Pulling down the driver-side gull-wing door, taking in the driver seat’s aging-leather smell, listening to the engine’s fearsome growl, and basking in the attention as I drove out of downtown and through my nearby neighborhood.
The neighbor kids got a kick out of trying out the driver’s seat.
It was a hoot to use a stick after so many years, too.
The DeLorean felt kind of stiff to drive, though. As a friend put it:
@ojezap Pretty crappy ride in reality, isn’t it?

Yeah, kinda.
But now I can say I’ve driven a DeLorean. Wow. That was definitely a bucket-list item.
