I talk tech with Karin Housley

Karin Housley – Nov. 12 – Tech Talk (mp3)

Karin Housley wears a lot of hats. She’s a prominent Realtor. She has run for political office. But I know her best as a KLBB radio-show personality because she often has me on her program to talk tech. This is the latest installment.

In-studio at TWiT brick house!

I was excited to make my second appearance on ‘Tech News Today,’ the TWiT-network show hosted by Tom Merritt, Sarah Lane, Iyaz Akhtar and Jason Howell.

I was in-studio at the famous Brick House the first time; today I Skyped in from the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Tom was off today (too bad) but I had a lot of fun, nonetheless. Watch me do my usual hand-waving thing as I get all worked up about tech stuff.

I talk social on Enough podcast

Here’s the second part of my recent social-media conversation with Patrick Rhone and Myke Hurley, the hosts of the fine ‘Enough‘ podcast. The episode description (written by Patrick):

This is part two of a special social-networking episode featuring our guest Julio Ojeda-Zapata, reporter, tech pundit and author of iPad Means Business. In this episode, we discuss his social networking tools, why I’m “doubling down” on email, and why Julio is going “all in” on social networks.

Using Facebook, G+ for reporting

How are Facebook and Google+ potentially useful for journalists? I spoke to my St. Paul Pioneer Press co-workers about this yesterday as part of an internal social-media training series.

How I use social media at work

I was delighted to again be a guest on “Enough,” the popular podcast hosted by my friend Patrick Rhone and his co-conspirator across the pond, one of my fave Brits, Myke Hurley. The show is now part of Myke’s growing 70Decibels podcast network.

The topic this time (which will extend into a second episode to be posted later this week): social media and how it’s become vital for me as a journalist. This not only includes Twitter, which I have used for a long time, but lately also Facebook and Google+.

Here’s the episode description:

In this episode, we are joined yet again by Julio Ojeda-Zapata, reporter, tech pundit and author of iPad Means Business. He had a lot to say after our last Twitter-focused episode (Episode 68 – Mark This Tweet) and wanted to stop by to tell us his thoughts and how, as a journalist, his social-networking game is changing. An interesting discussion all around.

Thanks for having me on, guys. It’s an honor.

I race a police robot on public TV

Minnesota is home to Throwbot (reconrobotics.com), a ruggedized robot for reconnaissance by the military, law enforcement and the like.

I have always wanted to play with the Throwbot. Last Friday, I got my chance!

After appearing on Twin Cities Public Television’s Almanac, the show’s David Gillette challenged me to a Throwbot race as part of his Web-only “Wrap” session.

We each had a Throwbot, and had to use a joystick-equipped controller to navigate a course marked out by twine. We couldn’t look at the course or the robots, but only at black-and-white screens built into our controllers.

Watch what happened.

I talk Steve Jobs on public TV

I’m always honored to be on Twin Cities Public Television’s Almanac public-affairs program as a recurring member of the show’s media panel. This time, I discussed the passing and legacy of Apple founder Steve Jobs with my fellow panelists. I got a bit emotional at one point.

I talk Netflix on Fox 9 News

When Netflix backpedaled on its plans to spin off its DVD business into a separate business stupidly called Qwikster, Fox 9 asked me to comment.

I talk Steve Jobs on Minnov8

It’s always a pleasure to be a guest host on the Minnov8 Gang Podcast, but my joy was tempered this time by the passing of Apple founder Steve Jobs. We talk about that and other tech topics.
